Unlike the Olàh, the Romungro, in other words Roms from Hungary, who settled at the end of the first migrations in the XVth century, largely took part in the development of professional music in Budapest and in other provincial towns.
As the masters of the traditional Hungarian songbook, they perfectly interpret the palotàs, csàrdàs or verbunkos, the musical genres which are the most spread and which are either dance musics or traditional popular songs.
The wide musical education of Romungro enables them to play the great classical songbook from Liszt to Bartok or the popular light operas.
But what mostly embodies their cultural roots is still the gypsy music, also called Romungro, which is inspired by the Russian, Balkan and Oriental cultures. Hungarian people are indeed very fond of that kind of gispy music. The Horvath family is thus the worthy successor of a world of viruoso.
